Migrating to Open Source

foss 150x150 Migrating to Open SourceIs it possible to do everything using open source software? If you ask this question, yes is the only answer for you! For ordinary home use, usually most of the people have been using commercial software. It might have been either bought legitimately or pirated. But it is quite waste to buy a software while a free open source software which can do the same remains available. In advanced and server side usage, the majority and dominant is opensource, where commercial software have almost been overrun by opensource. For instance MySQL, Apache, Bind, Squid, Postfix, etc.

These are some of  the most common commercial software and the given open source software can be used perfectly instead of the commercial software.

Windows –> Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc)

Internet Explorer –> Mozilla Firefox

Microsoft Office –> OpenOffice.org

Adobe Photoshop –> Gimp

Microsoft Outlook –> Mozilla Thunderbird

Remember, these are a few examples and are the most common software of a typical home user, and all commercial software can be replaced with free open source software. There could be some exceptions if the software is more specific but not always. Now open source software have started advancing towards the dominant play and here the good example is Mozilla Firefox, which is apparently better than it’s rival -Internet explorer in terms of anything!. Hence, it is quite obvious that we can easily abstain from using commercial software and step in to the world of free open source software. Of course, the open source software are as rich as the commercial software in terms of functionality, effectiveness and efficiency . Besides it is completely free of charge! So, start using open source software and save your money.
